Tata Motors To Supply 300EVs To CESL

Tata Motors has bagged an order of 300 electric passenger vehicles from Convergence Energy Services Ltd. (CESL). CESL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of EESL. Let’s take a look at some key highlights.

  • The order is a part of a ₹44 crores tender. The first 300 electric vehicles will be procured at ₹14.33 lakhs (Base price) excluding GST. An additional 21,000 per vehicle will be allotted to transportation, transit insurance and other costs.
  • There are three conditions that Tata will have to meet. First, the electric vehicles need to be less than 4 meters. Second, EVs must have a minimum range of 250kms. Third, EVs should have 3 years warranty.

Which cars can Tata provide under this agreement?

Currently, Tata has two EVs in its portfolio. One is the Tata Tigor EV. Let’s take a look at the specs of this EV.

  • Tata Tigor EV comes with a 72V 3-phase electric motor.
  • It is capable of churning out 41hp of power and a peak torque of 105Nm.
  • Tata claims a range of 213kms on a full charge. This range will put Tigor EV out of the question.

Tata Nexon EV, the electrified version of India’s first safest car, is another EV on the offer.

  • Tata Nexon EV has a PMSM motor that produces 129hp of power and a peak torque of 245Nm.
  • The company claims a range of 312kms from Nexon EV.

Tata is currently working on Tata Altroz EV. If launched in time, it can be an option too. For now, we can expect Tata Nexon EV to be the choice. What do you think? Is EV the future, especially when the government is trying to adopt the change? Do let us know in the comments section below.
