Ola Electric Scooter Launch on 15th August

Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO of Ola Electric announced via Twitter that the Ola Electric Scooter is set to launch on August 15th, 2021 i.e. on the same day as of 75th Independence Day of India.

Ola Electric Scooter: What We Know So Far!

World’s largest two-wheeler factory

Currently, the company hasn’t revealed much information regarding the Ola Electric Scooter but is expected to name the first model as Ola Series S. It is also said to be inviting online orders and delivering the scooters to the doorstep of customers. Further information regarding the delivery dates, features, pricing, technical specs, etc. will be updated on the launch day.

Sure, we’ll keep you updated.

It will consist of banana-shaped fixed batteries that are not portable i.e. you can’t take them out. The Etergo Appscooter had similar batteries but the users could take them out. The top range model might have the biggest battery that any electric scooter in India ever had i.e. of 3.6  kWh

Ola Electric plans to build charging stations throughout the country in over 100 cities and then grow to 400 cities. They will consist of both fast and slow charging points for convenience. The pricing is expected to be between Rs. 80,000-Rs. 1,00,000/-.

The under-seat storage of the Ola Electric Scooter is expected to be so large that it may be able to store 2 half-face helmets. The instrument display might also have virtual buttons to access the under-seat. It may also get an e-sim feature for connections.

The company will surely look out for budget-conscious customers and will provide them with a lower-priced model. This low-spec model may have reduced range with lower battery capacity.

Ola Electric Scooter Might Get a Massive FAME-II Subsidy of ₹50,000/-

The Central Govt. of India revised the FAME II subsidy and increased the incentive. Earlier the subsidy was Rs. 10,000/- per kWh. But it has been revised to Rs. 15,000/- per kWh. With this, if there’s any scooter for Rs. 1.5 Lakhs, it can get a subsidy of about Rs. 60,000/- provided the scooter has a 4 kWh battery. So, the Ola Electric scooter is expected to have a subsidy of about Rs. 51,000-Rs. 52,000/- under FAME II.

Due to this subsidy, we can expect Ola Electric Scooter to be under the pricing of the 1 Lakh mark or just be around that. Because scooters with more than Rs. 1.5 Lakhs pricing is not eligible for the subsidy. So, the company must have tried to keep it eligible.

This should also be considered that different states are offering different incentives for EVs. So, these may affect the pricing of the scooter. Gujarat on one hand is offering a maximum subsidy of Rs. 20,000/-. On the other hand, Maharashtra is providing a maximum subsidy of Rs. 25,000/-. So, due to these factors, the pricing of Ola Electric Scooter can vary from state to state.
