Maruti Suzuki has a very wide variety of CNG car models in its portfolio. It is expected to diversify its S-CNG lineup in some time with models such as Dzire and Swift. Meanwhile, the carmaker is also working on a Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza CNG.
Maruti Vitara Brezza CNG: What all we know so far!
The company will use its Arena chain of dealerships to offer CNG models of all the models. As the S-CNG line will be inviting Maruti Suzuki Swift and Dzire to the party, only Maruti Vitara Brezza will be left to get an invitation.
As per some reports, we can expect the Brezza to get the same K15B engine that it currently has. We all know that with CNG, the power and the torque figures take a hit. Currently, they are 105hp and 138Nm produced in the petrol model.
Even though CNG-powered Brezza will be less powerful, it will have better fuel efficiency. We can expect the mid-spec variants of Vitara Brezza to get the S-CNG option. Thus, the VXI and LXI variants of Brezza might be getting the S-CNG treatment. The top-spec ZXI variant might not get a CNG option.
New Maruti Vitara Brezza
The company is expected to give an update to Vitara Brezza in the upcoming model. The segment in which Vitara Brezza competes is a very competitive one and it has been there since 2016. In 2020, Vitara Brezza got only a few minor changes and became the petrol-only model.
One thing for which we have to wait is to know if the new Vitara Brezza will come in the CNG variant or CNG will be made available in the current model only.
Maruti Suzuki on CNG Models
RC Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki recently stated “Fortunately, in our market, the use of CNG, particularly for small cars, has proved very acceptable to customers.” This was said because of the rising fuel prices and stringent carbon emission norms.
Because of these reasons, the company is developing hybrid cars that can run on both fuel and gas. It is also improving the CNG technology so that the power doesn’t get a dip and efficiency also remains the same. This way consumers will be able to make a better choice while reducing carbon emission and fuel consumption as well. It is also worth noting that while the overall vehicle sales were down in the domestic market by 8% in FY2021, but CNG vehicles reported about a 50% rise in sales.
