Maruti Suzuki Celerio was launched back in 2014. It was the most affordable automatic car at that time. Celerio introduced the AGS tech to India. And now, after almost 7 years, it is still to get an update. Maruti Suzuki Celerio 2nd generation has been spotted testing plenty of times. Let’s take a look at the key points you can expect from the upcoming hatchback.
-
It is going to be longer and wider
We can expect 2nd generation Celerio to be based on the Heartect platform. This platform is currently the base for SPresso and Maruti Suzuki WagonR. This will lead to an increase in the wheelbase and the cabin space due to an increase in width.
-
A more powerful engine option
The current Celerio gets a BS6-compliant K10 1.0-litre 3-cylinder. We can expect to get the same engine along with a bigger 1.2-litre K12 series engine. This engine currently powers WagonR. You can expect a 5-speed manual and AGS transmission option.

More features
Maruti Suzuki Celerio 2nd generation will have a new dashboard layout this time. As seen from the spy shots, it gets protruding centre console with vertical air-con vents on both sides. We do get to see similar controls like those on the Maruti’s lineup. We can expect Celerio to get Maruti’s SmartPlay infotainment system. The steering wheel seems to be borrowed from the WagonR.

Will be locking horns with Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago
As far as the price is concerned, Celerio will be kept under the budget segment within the price bracket of ₹4.5lakhs to ₹6.5lakhs. This will put it up against the Tata Tiago and Hyundai Santro.
