The second wave of Covid 19 has impacted the 2 wheeler industry as well which is evident from the sales report of May 2021. Take a look.

Amid the second Covid wave lockdowns in multiple cities, almost all the industry have taken a severe hit in sales. The automobile industry is no exception in this. With cars taking a massive loss 2-wheeler sales report for May shows the same trends.

Hero MotorCorp

If you remember last year, the entire country was in lockdown, resulting in massive losses to all companies. This year is comparatively better except for scooters as they sold 2,306 units more last year.

The yearly data shows similar trends as most 4 wheelers did with more sales this year than the last.  An even growth around all aspects except scooters.

In a month difference, the domestic sales have taken a major hit compared to exports which are also in the red. The numbers of scooters sold tumbled hard as well.

Hero MotoCorp stated that May-21 to April-21 sales are not comparable due to the second wave of covid and May sales won’t be comparable to coming months as well.

Honda

Similar trends as every other automotive company Honda has also suffered in both domestic sales and exports.

Honda lost domestic sales this year meanwhile gaining a massive increase in exports a whopping 2266.46% gain.

Just like Hero’s sale comparing May-21 to April-21 will not give significant insight into the trend as what happened last month is not a normal occurrence.

Red across unit sold in both domestic and exports as has been expected due to the circumstances. A couple of months with low numbers will come as no surprise but with some states relaxing lockdowns should help get the numbers up.

TVS

TVS suffered losses in the domestic sector meanwhile exporting more in the month of may compared to both May-20 and April-21 which comes as a pleasant surprise.

Just like other companies mentioned above Bajaj has also sold more units compared to last year

Bajaj has exported the most number units in the past month taking 56.31% share in the market.

This concludes the 2-wheeler sales report for the month of May. The condition is expected to improve in the coming months as the virus recedes and the lockdowns are removed.
