Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG vs Tata Tiago CNG | Performance Comparison

Performance comparison

It is clear from the above table, Tata Tiago CNG is a winner in terms of power and torque output. But when it comes to fuel efficiency, there is no beating the Maruti Celerio CNG. With an exceptional mileage of 35.6km/kg, Celerio CNG not only beats the Tiago CNG but the other CNG cars in the segment as well.

Tata Tiago’s 3-cylinder engine is bigger than the 1.0-liter 3-cyl at the Celerio. Celerio’s engine is refined, like all the other Marutis. Tata on the other hand is a bit behind in terms of refinement.

Another point to note here is that Tata Tiago CNG offers a feature using which you can start your car even on CNG mode. This feature will allow you to run on CNG even if petrol is not available. This gives Tata Tiago an overall win in the performance comparison. Let’s head to the safety comparison now.

Which of the two green hatchbacks is safer?

Tata Tiago has been known to be the safest hatchback in the segment. It has scored a 4-star rating at the Global NCAP crash testing. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki Celerio 2022 has not been tested at the non-profit organization. In terms of safety, Tata Tiago CNG offers dual-front airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, and cornering stability control as standard features. You get dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors as standard while Hill Hold Assist is offered as an optional feature with the Maruti Celerio CNG. Though we don’t have the crash test report of Celerio CNG, it is safer to say that Tata Tiago CNG is a safer option of the two.

Maruti Celerio CNG vs Tata Tiago CNG | Features comparison

This is where Tata Motors has taken a huge leap. Unlike the other manufacturers, who add CNG variants to the base or lower variants, Tiago CNG is being offered in an array of variants. As a consumer, you are going to get a lot of options to choose from. A lot of features to enjoy.

Let’s list down the features that you will be getting with the top-spec Tata Tiago iCNG:

  • Projector Headlamps
  • Signature LED DRLs
  • 7″ touchscreen infotainment by Harman
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
  • Rear parking camera
  • Fully automatic temperature control
  • Height adjustable driver seat
  • Autofold ORVMs
  • Digital instrument cluster
  • 8-speaker surround sound system, and much more!

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG comes in the VXi variant only. The list of features includes only the basic features. This has been a concern of the CNG buyers as they had to give up on features in order to get a CNG car. But with Tata Tiago CNG, buyers have now an option to choose cheaper fuel alternatives while not giving up on the luxury.

And now, the price comparison!

Price comparison

If all the above wasn’t enough, Tata Motors decided to take it a notch above with aggressive pricing. The XE base variant for Tata Tiago CNG comes at a price of Rs. 6,09,900, which is almost Rs. 58,000 less than the only CNG variant Celerio has to offer. So, does that mean, Tata Tiago CNG has won the segment already? What are your thoughts? Do let us know in the comments section below.
