With the latest development, we can expect Skoda to launch a new sedan later this year. It will rival Honda City and Hyundai Verna and will be placed above Skoda Rapid. This sedan will be the second product from the company under Made In India mission after Kushaq. Skoda Slavia (expected name) will launch in India first.
Camouflage with Skoda
Skoda has introduced an interesting contest, especially for budding Indian designers. Designers will have to design camouflage for the upcoming Skoda Sedan. The interested designers can submit their entries by 18th August 2021. The jury will announce five shortlisted designs on August 23, 2021. The jury will then select one final winner out of these five.
The judges of the contest are some of the well-known people in the industry. Zac Hollis, Brand Director – Skoda Auto India; Gurpratap Boparai, Managing Director – SAVWIPL; and Oliver Stefani, Head of Design – Skoda Auto are some of the judges.
Designers above 18 years of age can apply for the contest. They are required to register and submit their design on www.camowithskoda.com. Skoda has further stated that the upcoming Skoda sedan will feature the winning design and it will be exhibited throughout the country. One more interesting surprise revealed by Skoda is that the winner will get the opportunity to meet Oliver Stefani – Skoda Head of Design in Prague. Skoda will award the runner-up with a design tablet and the next 3 shortlisted ones will get Skoda gift bags.
New Skoda Sedan Slavia
For about a year, Skoda has been testing its new sedan model. The Skoda Rapid is an old model so maybe Skoda wants to replace it with a new introduction in the Sedan section. But this car may not be a direct replacement for it. As per the rumors, the new model’s name can be Skoda Slavia. It may be a bit longer than the Skoda Rapid. Skoda Rapid is 4,413mm long and we can expect Skoda Slavia to be about 4,480mm long. It can also feature the longest wheelbase in its segment at the time of launch at 2,651mm.
There will be two TSI turbo-petrol engine options in this new Skoda sedan. The transmission choices will be a 6-speed torque converter automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox in the first engine option. It will drive on the front wheels and will have a power of 115hp with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder TSI petrol engine.
On the other hand, the other option in the engine is a larger one. It is a four-cylinder TSI motor with a 1.5-liter engine providing 250 Nm and 150hp of torque. This engine model will compete with its rivals fairly well with its best-in-class specs. The quick-shifting dual-clutch automatic gearbox will put it way ahead in its segment while competing with rivals.
The new Skoda sedan will be competing with Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Volkswagen Virtus, Toyota Yaris, and Hyundai Verna.
