Tata Motors, India’s very own indigenous carmaker has achieved yet another feat. India’s first car to score a 5-star rating at the Global NCAP, Tata Nexon has crossed the 2,00,000 production mark.
When was the SUV launched?
Tata launched Nexon back in 2017. Then in January 2020, Tata introduced the facelifted Nexon. You might remember that Nexon achieved a 1,50,000 unit production mark in November last year. Now, in less than 6 months, Nexon has achieved another 50,000 production mark, even though there were pandemic induced restrictions.
Last month, Nexon became the second best-selling subcompact SUV in India, only behind Kia Sonet. It managed to beat Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue for the spot.
About Tata Nexon!
Nexon was the car from the carmaker that started the safety trend in India. Since then, Tata has rolled out Tiago, Altroz and Tigor which have been setting benchmarks for safety in their respective segments.
Tata Nexon comes with two engine options: 1.2-litre Revotorq turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. As for the transmission, you get a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. For the automatic, you get an AMT option only. Tata Nexon surely needs a better automatic but this discussion, we’ll leave for another day.
You will get a load of safety features such as dual-front airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program, reverse parking sensors, roll-over mitigation, brake disc wiping and hill-hold control as standard. This surely comes as no surprise as the Nexon was India’s first car to score a 5-star Global NCAP rating.
