Yamaha YZF-R7 Unveiled

The Japanese motorcycle maker, Yamaha has unveiled a new supersport bike in its ‘R’ series. Yamaha YZF-R7 replaces the company’s YZF-R6 and is an option placed between R3 and R1. The Yamaha Racing Four-Stroke supersport is based on MT-07. Let’s explore the bike now.

What powers the all-new Yamaha YZF-R7?

Yamaha has given R7 the same engine that currently does duties on MT-07. A 698cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder inline engine does the job here. This engine is capable of producing 73.4hp @8,750rpm of power and a peak torque of 67Nm @6,500rpm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed transmission with a slip and assist function. You can also opt for a quick shifter which is offered as an option.

Design and ergonomics of the R7

The R7 follows the design philosophy of R1 along with all the newly launched motorcycles in the series. The overall design looks much similar to the legendary R1. There are a few prominent differences though:

  • It gets a single projector headlight as compared to the R1.
  • It has large openings in the side fairing to dissipate the heat from the engine.
  • The rear end is similar to most of the ‘R’ series.

As for the ergonomics, R7 is an aggressive motorcycle. You will get the same seat material that currently R1 has. Yamaha states that the seating position is sporty and not much uncomfortable.

Now, the final question, is it coming to India?

Currently, Yamaha has launched R7 in the USA at a price of $8,999 or ₹6.57 lakhs. We don’t expect the R7 to launch in India, anytime soon! Still, we can expect this supersport to launch in India, eventually. What do you think? Should Yamaha launch R7 in India? Do let us know in the comments section below.
